HOTSHOT Ryan Mears has added to his vast collection of titles with another billiards crown, writes Chris Gaynor.

The 34-year-old, who can play ambidextrously, has  swept all before him in the Byfleet Billiards League this year and is a force to be reckoned with in both snooker and billiards.

His latest title is the Byfleet Billiards League’s Billiards Handicap.

Mears defeated Woking Snooker Centre’s top amateur James Cullen – both men play in the Byfleet Snooker League Premier Division – in the final.

It was a comfortable victory for Mears, who is also a snooker jetsetter and plays in almost any tournament you can think of.

Mears’ best run against Cullen was what the league described as a textbook 120.

The match, at Woking Snooker Centre,  ended 400-110 to Mears.

Kelvin Jones, chairman of the Byfleet League, wrote on Facebook: “It was a superb exhibition of billiards.

“Ryan combines brilliant potting with an excellent all-around game.

“He seems to be getting better and better. James did little wrong, was gracious as ever and said his opponent was just too good.”

Mears said: “The way it started, I felt I was on for an early bath.

“But once I’d switched off from what’s been going on off the table, I just felt my strength came flooding back.

“And it was those chats with friends that really helped.”

Mears’ Handicap triumph meant he secured a double in the Byfleet League this season.

The previous week, Mears won his sixth consecutive Billiards Championship title when he beat Staines star Martin Court in the final at West Byfleet Social Club.
