ROHAN Ince wants Woking to be even more successful next season than they were in 2022-23.

Last term was the most prolific of the 30-year-old midfielder’s career.

He netted eight times in 49 appearances and helped the Cards reach the Vanarama National League play-offs.

But he told the News & Mail: “I want us to win more games than last season.

“If we’re looking to get promoted and go one better, we’re going to have to win more games – it’s as simple as that.”

Regarding personal targets, Ince – who is well on his way to making 100 appearances for the Kingfield club since making the move from Maidenhead United in 2021 – said: “I just want to try to get some more goals again.

“It’s nice helping the team out with some goals. The manager [Darren Sarll] gave me a bit more licence to get forward last season.

“I want to get some more goals from set-pieces. It’s something I can improve on.”

A wonderful 30-yard volley from Ince at Dorking Wanderers on Good Friday earned him the Cards’ goal-of-the-season accolade.

“That was a special goal,” he said. “Not long before I scored I’d got booked, so I was wound up.

“And when that ball dropped nicely, I thought ‘I can’t really see a pass on here’ – so I just hit it.

“I put everything through it. I obviously concentrated on the technique as well, because it’s not an easy goal to score.

“But I hit it well. I hit it with a lot of power and, fortunately, it went in, so I was very pleased with that.

“When you hit them, you can feel it’s got a good chance of going in when it leaves your foot as nicely as that one did.”

Ince has made more than 120 appearances in the Football League, turning out for the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham.

And he is thrilled to have extended his stay with the Cards until the end of the 2024-25 season.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign again with Woking. I feel like we had a really good season. Personally I had quite a good one as well.

“I feel like we’ve got something to build on when we go again next season.

“I normally sign only one-year contracts, but I like what we’re doing at Woking – so I’m delighted to stay longer.

“I feel like the club are moving in the right direction on and off the field.

“We’re improving and hopefully we can keep on improving with new recruits and some old faces from last season and really give it a go.”

And with the Woking squad due to meet up for pre-season training towards the end of this month, Ince has started to prepare himself physically.

“I’ve just started training again,” he said.

“I do a bit of work before we go back. I’ve done it since a young age.

“I do cardio, gym work and some sprints, just to make sure when you do go back it’s not too much of a shock to your body, otherwise injuries can happen.

“I normally train Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and sometimes Saturdays as well.

“The first week’s light. The second week’s harder – and by the third week, you’re kind of coasting and bringing it back down a bit, ready to go when all the boys come in.”
