The Woking News & Mail rose like a phoenix from the ashes in May 2011 after being closed down by the Guardian Media Group.Philip Davies, a successful businessman, who had started his career as a Saturday boy on the Woking News & Mail in Chertsey Road, decided the town deserved to have its newspaper brought back to life. He saw the family-owned newspaper restored to weekly prominence with a dedicated team of journalists with experience of working on some of the biggest newspapers in the country.
In October 2022, the News & Mail was purchased by Tindle Newspapers Surrey & Hampshire Ltd. Tindle Group is one of the largest privately-owned local media companies in the UK, with newspapers and news websites covering communities in Surrey and Hampshire, as well as Cornwall, Devon, Isle of Man, Somerset, Essex and Wales.“I knew Sir Ray Tindle for 60 years, and saw the philosophy with which he built his newspapers,” said Philip Davies. “I know this is a group that will help the News & Mail continue to go from strength to strength.”As part of our local community focus, we want your news and pictures.
