AS A family, we spent the bank holiday and much of half term at Wildfires, a Christian “festival” with about 4,000 others.
We had a great time – the sun was shining, we had a lot of fun with friends, and were inspired and challenged by our gathering times together.
We celebrated the last night with a huge party, hosted by The Deloreans, an amazing band taking us through covers from the 80s, 90s and beyond.
I found myself dancing the night away and singing at the top of my lungs to songs from my youth, filled with so much joy, a place when I felt so free, full of laughter and fun.
The next morning, with a hoarse voice and tight hamstrings, I reflected on the joy this time had brought me. I recognised that I most commonly ask God for His peace, strength, wisdom – but I can miss prioritising moments of “just” joy.
Psalm 16:11 speaks of God’s presence being a place of “fullness of joy” and Romans 15:13 declares: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
What can you do this weekend that brings you a moment of joy? Five minutes with a good book, a long bath, a dance in your kitchen, a walk in the sunshine, a run along the river, laughter with friends…
