JESUS said: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest!’” (Matthew 11:28)
How often do you look at stones? I don’t mean nice pretty ones, or the precious varieties, but plain, simple, ordinary stones?
I’ve just come back from 48 hours on a retreat where we were encouraged to ‘come to Jesus’, slow down, rest awhile and NOTICE things – even stones.
The words of a poem on praying by Mary Oliver were offered to us and now I offer them to you – in the hope they help you to slow down and notice the God who is there just waiting to speak to you and give you rest.
“It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak.”
Have a good week and may you hear God’s word of love to you in Jesus, the Living Word.
