A TEAM from Citizens Advice Woking completed the London Legal Walk last week to help raise funds for the charity.
The ten-strong group walked 10km through central London.
“The team were great,” said trustee William Annandale.
“They enjoyed themselves and showed good stamina despite the hot weather.
“The group met at the start on Carey Street, although there was a certain amount of trepidation given the warm day.
“However, it was clear from the outset that a reasonable breeze would help to cool fevered brows.
“More than 10,000 walkers participated in total, so the route was busy.
“But we were soon over Blackfriars Bridge and enjoying glorious views of the Thames in both directions.
“The first mini stop, as part of taking on regular liquid, was to admire the Houses of Parliament from across the river.
“Then crossing back over the Thames at Vauxhall Bridge was a high point as we knew we were on the home straight.
“We hadn’t spotted any ice cream vendors, so a quick stop was made at a convenience store just south of Westminster Bridge, and ice creams were enjoyed by all, with the London Eye as an amazing backdrop.
“It was a great atmosphere arriving back in Carey Street but a tip-off before the event led us to the quieter and cooler Law Society on Chancery Lane for a welcome drink and celebration, before everyone left to go their separate ways.”
One team member added: “It was great to be able to walk and chat with different members of the team, we don’t often get a chance to socialise.”
Another, perhaps with a hint of relief, said: “That was hard work, and I felt it the next day, but 10km wasn’t as long as I thought it would be.”
William added: “We have raised a total of £2,590, including many donations from News & Mail readers, for which we are very grateful.
“It’s a tremendous effort, meaning we are 34th out of 1,033 fundraisers. It would be great if we could achieve more than £3,000 at a time of much-needed funds.”
