TIME-travelling beginners rubbed shoulders with veterans of the flashback as Brooklands Museum flung open it doors for the latest installment of its 1940s Relived celebration.

The annual throwback is a salute to a decade defined by war, with soldiers, civvies, Land Girls, spivs and famous politicians of the time resurrected in honour of all that was sacrificed during the conflict.

As usual, guests spared no expense when it came to the retro-regalia, with criss-crossed cravats and gleaming military medallions on proud display everywhere.

Swing music of the era provided the soundtrack to an afternoon peppered with stories of life on both the home front and the front lines.

Tea passed lips by the mugful and the crowds swooned to an impressive fleet of military vehicles, kindly put on display for the day by both the museum and its visitors.

And they proved to be a real hit with the event’s youngest attendees, who got up close and personal with the kind of gear that’s usually reserved for their toy soldiers.

As the action unfolded, the scenes were ably captured by The Vintage News team who, with their state-of-the-art equipment, ensured some exciting future viewing for the generations of adults to come.
