A SCHOOLBOY from Chobham has taken the first steps in a motor racing career by signing up to compete in a sports car championship.
William Vincent, 15, has joined the Elite Motorsport for this year’s Ginetta Junior Championship.
The competition, which has several classes, solely includes Ginetta racing cars, which are all built in a factory near Leeds.
William recently won the Rookie Cup in the Daniel Ricciardo Series kart racing competition, named after its founder, the Australian Formula One Renault driver.
The teenager, a pupil at the LVS Ascot school, gained his race licence after completing Association of Racing Driver Schools training and testing. He is coached by Rob Wilson, an internationally recognised master instructor.
“I love the buzz and adrenalin of racing; which I think I get from my dad who is still very involved in the sport,” said William.
“I am looking forward to racing the Ginetta at some brilliant circuits and really want to thank my family for supporting me, particularly my dad and grandad.”
William hopes to carve out a career as a racing driver or race engineer and has secured a place at the Motor Sport College at Silverstone.

William clearly has racing in his blood and he is an excellent addition to the team. I can’t wait to start our testing programme to hit the ground running for round one at Donington Park.”
