POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in Woking.

The incident took place in Walton Road, close to the junction with Grove Road, at around 11pm on Thursday,  October 25.

This latest attack comes just four days after a 15-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted near the town's railway station between 6pm and 7pm on Sunday (October 21).

Thursday's victim, a local woman, was walking along Chertsey Road when she was approached by a man who briefly spoke to her.

Police said the suspect is described as Asian, in his early 20s, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 7ins tall, slim build, with short black spiky hair.

He had a distinctive mole under his left eye.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and was carrying a rucksack.

Following the assault police carried out a thorough search of the area but the man has yet to be located.

Police are now sifting through CCTV footage and conducting house-to-house enquiries.

Detective Constable Jade Withington-Hunt, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was an extremely concerning incident where a young woman who was returning home alone after a night out with friends has been assaulted.

"This was a targeted attack where the suspect has spoken to the victim and followed her for a short distance before assaulting her in the street.

"The victim is understandably extremely upset by what must have been a very frightening attack and we are doing everything possible to track down the man responsible.

"The suspect is clearly a desperate individual who was prepared to take risks by assaulting the woman in such a public place."

Police have not announced whether they think the two incidents are linked.

But DC Withington-Hunt added: "Offences of this nature are fortunately rare in Surrey and I can assure Woking residents that we are doing everything possible to bring the man responsible to justice.

"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault taking place or who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary in or around Walton Road on Thursday evening.”
