PATIENTS at the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice can now choose between a foam mattress or the traditional air-style mattress, following a donation of £2,300 by Woking District Rotary Club.
The hospice was looking for alternative mattresses for patients who are more mobile or find air mattresses less comfortable. For some patients the air mattresses can also reduce the likelihood or severity of pressure sores.
Rotarians were able to step in and fund the purchase of four brand new foam mattresses for in-patients to use.
Phil Wormley, director of fund raising for Woking Hospice, said: "We are very grateful to the Woking District Rotary Club for their kind and generous funding of our new mattresses for the in-patient ward.
"The feedback I have had from our ward manager Grace and the nurses is that they are a welcome and important addition to the ward and are making a massive difference to the patients. They are also hugely helpful for the nurses on duty."
Roger Gratwick, team leader for community service at Woking District Rotary Club, said: "This is just the latest donation in a series we have made to the hospice over the last few years.
"It’s a great cause and always needs lots of help to buy things that are really beneficial to patients."
