PUPILS captured the sounds, shapes and spirit of decades gone by as Knaphill Junior School toasted their 75th anniversary with a trip through time.

Having spent three quarters of a century at their current High Street home, staff decided to throw a bash that celebrated the school’s past, as well as its present and future.

Performances were laid on by each class for parents and guests who were led on a march through the decades.

Colourful costumes stretched all across the playground with teachers also letting their hair down to join in with the Macarana and other famous dance numbers.

Headteacher Kevin Davies, who oversaw proceedings and thanked faculty for their efforts, said the party will live long in the memory.

He said: “This was an exciting opportunity to celebrate all that is good and great about the education of seven to 11-year-olds in Knaphill.

“The school staged a wonderful show looking back over the past 75 years as seen through the medium of music and dance. Everyone connected to the school had a fantastic time creating a set of memories that children from Knaphill may well talk about for the next 75 years.”

Classics, such as We’ll Meet Again, through to the theme tune from Footloose rang out to signal the end of the summer term.

A staff finale, which featured silky steps from the headteacher and governors, drew much acclaim and filled the air with rapturous laughter and applause.

Flags and bunting waved in the gentle breeze as parents sheltered from sweltering conditions under a giant marquee donated by the nearby Garibaldi pub.

Woking Mayor Anne Roberts, a guest of honour, was also in on the action, almost getting lost in a sea of young faces as she  jumped to the moves of the Macarana.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent by parents perusing the art gallery of children’s creations on display in the school hall.

Guests then moved throughout the school to view children’s work from across the year.
