Victoria Place is serving up the first of a series of summer events in Woking.

The programme was launched with the return of the big screen in Jubilee Square, for visitors to watch all the Wimbledon action live.

The area is decked out with artificial grass and brightly coloured deckchairs and the screen will be in situ until the tournament ends on Sunday.

“It’s the perfect spot to put your feet up and enjoy all the action live from the home of British tennis, for free,” said a council spokesman.

Until August 26, visitors are invited to enjoy a whole host of summer activities in and around the centre, all with a Woodland Wonderland theme.

For those looking to test their investigative skills, a free woodland trail is running around the centre throughout the summer.

Families are invited to pick up a woodland trail leaflet at the entrance to The Peacocks and search for Woking’s woodland friends within the mall.

Once completed, families can submit their trail sheet to enter the weekly prize draw.

Then from August 1 to 26, visitors can unleash their competitive side on the centre’s free woodland-themed crazy golf course, from 11am to 4pm each day in Jubilee Square.

There is no booking required, just turn up and the team will be on hand to provide golf clubs and balls.

To create a thought-provoking installation, from August 1 to 13, Victoria Place is inviting visitors to write a ‘wish for the world’ on a tag to display on their wooden wish trees in The Peacocks.

These wishes will be used to produce a display to be installed in the centre for everyone to view.

Victoria Place is also running a nature photography competition throughout the duration of the summer event, offering one lucky winner the chance to win a nature-themed hamper.

Until August 26, participants are invited to send in their photographs, taken of nature around Woking, via direct message on the centre’s Facebook or Instagram channels.

Victoria Place’s centre manager John-Paul Jackson said: “It’s exciting to get our summer event under way and to offer an enticing programme of free woodland-themed activities for everyone to enjoy over the summer months.

“The focus of our campaign this year is bringing the woodlands that surround Woking to Victoria Place to inspire people to care about local wildlife and the woodlands, which have never been so vital to preserve.

“We hope our visitors will get involved in one of the many activities on offer, and take away memories of a fantastic summer in Woking.”
