GOLDSWORTH Care recently celebrated answering its 10,000th call for help since it began assisting local residents in 2001.

Pat Moore, Goldsworth Care’s secretary, took Eileen Gorman to an appointment at Frimley Park Hospital, and to mark the milestone Eileen was presented with a card and bouquet of flowers by Pat and Mike Griffiths, Goldsworth Care’s chair.

Goldsworth Care, a part of Woking’s Good Neighbour Schemes, is a voluntary community transport organisation offering help to anyone living in the locality who finds everyday tasks difficult.

Good Neighbour Schemes support those who need help with such tasks as shopping, visiting friends, attending appointments, and pension and prescription collection.

Assistance can also cover doing household odd jobs, filling in forms or simply providing some company.

Although the service is free, a donation towards costs is requested.

The schemes point out that there is a constant need for duty officers to man the telephone and arrange pick-ups, and for drivers, who will require a DBS check.

The phone line is open for two hours, from 10am to 12 noon, on weekdays. Drivers have no fixed times but operate when they are free.
