A DISABLED former soldier shot by police in Knaphill has appeared in court in conection with the incident.

Richard Pell, of Oak Tree Road, is charged with making threats to kill, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and communicating false information about a hoax bomb.

Armed police were called to Oak Tree Road just after 10pm on Wednesday, July 25.

Mr Pell, 41, was shot by police and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he remained for several weeks until he was well enough to be questioned.

The former squaddie appeared at South West Surrey Magistrates' Court in Guildford today (September 15). He was remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on October 4.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
