Woking’s popular Voluntary Sector Fair returns next month, bringing together more than 70 groups, charities and voluntary organisations.
The free public event offers residents the chance to find out more about the community support available to them provided by the extensive voluntary sector in Woking.
It is also an excellent opportunity for the public to consider volunteering themselves and find out more about how giving back to the community can enrich their lives.
The event, which is organised by Woking Borough Council and supported by Woking Christian Agencies Network, will take place on Thursday, November 9 at Woking Leisure Centre.
Organisations attending include Action for Carers, Citizens Advice Woking, Shooting Star Children’s Hospice, Woking Environment Action and Your Sanctuary.
Cllr Will Forster, deputy leader of Woking Borough Council and portfolio holder for the voluntary sector, said: “I’m looking forward to opening the Voluntary Sector Fair and thanking Woking’s hard-working volunteers personally.
“As a former Mayor of Woking, I know first-hand how the voluntary sector makes our borough a special and vibrant place.
“At the Voluntary Sector Fair, visitors can meet and engage with over 70 locally-based community organisations, who provide a variety of services to support Woking residents.
“They can also speak to experienced volunteers about the hundreds of rewarding volunteer opportunities available to anyone who has a few hours to spare each week.”
Volunteering has many benefits. From helping others to spending time outdoors, volunteering can be a great boost to your mental health.
For some, volunteering can be a route to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change.
Drop in between 10am and 2pm on November 9 to discover what opportunities await you.
There is ample parking on site and the first two hours are free of charge.
