MORE than 650 children and their family members enjoyed complimentary funfair rides, thanks to a Chobham-based charity.

The Children With Special Needs Foundation lined up a two-hour session at the Billy Davis fair while it was visiting Frimley Lodge Park at Frimley Green.

“This year, the fair was bigger than ever, with lots of rides for the children, ideal for the families we support,” said Gordon Parris, who founded the charity with his wife Ann when he was mayor of Surrey Heath in 1995-96.

Among the special-needs children having fun with their brothers and sisters were pupils from Freemantles Primary School in Mayford, Portesbery School at Camberley and Abbey School at Farnham.

“The sun shone again for our annual special-needs funfair morning,” added Gordon. “Thanks to Billy Davis and his family for supporting us so well.

“This is the 27th year that they have, so generously, given us two hours of  rides for our families and it was good to see so many smiling and excited children having a morning of thrills at the fairground.

“It is always so good that the operators slow the rides down to enable our special children to ride safely.”

Lots of the families also enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and chips in the sunshine.

Many stayed on to enjoy some time in the park itself and eat a picnic.

“Our special thanks also go to the Rotary Club of Camberley for managing to park so many cars, and the park ranger for making sure the additional parking was open,” said Gordon.
