Ever fancied seeing what life is like at the bottom of the ocean? You’re in luck. The Houseplant Takeover is back in the iconic glasshouse at RHS Garden Wisley and, this time, it’s a nautical adventure of dreams.

‘The Houseplant Takeover - Deep Sea Dive’ from 4 February to 12 March is a glimpse into an underwater wonderland.

You’ll be transported to a colourful reef below the surface of the sea, where familiar houseplants mix with foliage and other exciting specimens amongst shipwrecks and treasure chests.

A unique display of succulents, air plants, foliage and other indoor favourites from the Wisley Glasshouse collections clamber over every surface, creating a mesmerising nautical landscape.

Let your imagination run as wild as the scenery in this transformed space where underwater sea creatures weave in and out, and sea birds fly high above the ocean. Suspended boats, buoys and netting add to the illusion of a sea surface high above your heads. While props – including materials on loan from the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum – add to the authentic immersive experience.

Spot the enormous whale fluke disappearing into the waterfall plunge pool and keep an eye out for the diver looking for a treasure chest of the most exquisite succulents.

The ‘Deep Sea Dive’ display is an engaging and inspiring immersive experience that everyone can enjoy and includes a story-led activity for children. Can they help a professor find his collection of drought tolerant plants that have been washed away in a storm?

The exhibition builds on the continuing trend of houseplants and aims get you thinking about innovative ways of integrating greenery indoors, with a particular focus on wise watering.

The houseplant event of the year is an enchanting must-sea – sorry, must-see – event whether you’re an avid gardener or completely lacking in green fingers.

There are plenty of other exciting and inspirational things to see and do at RHS Garden Wisley so when you’ve finished with the enchanting showstopper you can get your land legs back with a tour of the gardens. Or maybe catch your breath with a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake in the Glasshouse café.
