A CONFESSED stalker from Knaphill who told his victim he would "serve a life sentence" if she didn't return his calls is to be sentenced at Guildford Crown Court next week.

Max Carman, 23, of Barley Mow Close, appeared at Guildford Magistrates' Court on June 15 and pleaded guilty to one count of stalking involving fear of violence.

The court heard he harassed a woman in Guildford from June 1 to 4, causing her to fear on at least two occasions that violence would be used against her.

Carman sent text messages and made a number of telephone calls to his victim indicating he would inflict violence to her and would attend her's and her parents home address if she didn't respond or pick up.

Magistrates told Carman he "ought to have known that your course of conduct would cause fear of violence".

His case was committed to Guildford Crown Court for sentencing on July 13. Carman was remanded in custody.

The offence of stalking involving fear of violence was created by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and now forms part of section 4A the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

Offences under section 4A are triable and carry a potential prison term of up to five years.
