RAISING the rooftops outside St Lawrence Church, a group of Valley End pupils braved the cold to sing their hearts out at Chobham Extravaganza.

The village High Street was alive and kicking with festive cheer.

St Lawrence Rev Chris Bedford and onlookers joined the 15-strong group of girls from years 4, 5 and 6 in song to set the Christmas mood.

Coworth Flexlands Junior  School headteacher Anne Sweeney said: “We come every year and it’s always brilliant.

"As our music teacher Maggie Guilfoyle was stuck in traffic, scholar and prefect Rosie Keeling from Year 6 got the choir going before modestly taking her place at the back.”

Meanwhile, in from the cold, the Chobham Country Market was in full swing, selling homemade gifts and foods, with Joan Moore and Rina Glazier on the winter plant stall.

There was face-painting, Santa Claus, hot-food vendors, shops were open late for gift ideas and Chobham museum on Bagshot Road was open to visitors welcomed by chairman Collin Flower and a life-size Father Christmas.

Outside the museum treasurer David Young, curator Janet Mann and Wendy Bentall were dishing out the Chobham Jubilee mugs which every single child in the village was given. Visitors were also able to buy one.

In Pasha’s deli Morris dancers took centre stage with the youngest member Rhys Bennett-Jones, six, always a popular favourite.
