CHOBHAM councillor Pat Tedder has been chosen as Mayor of Surrey Heath for a second time, giving her the opportunity to enjoy a full year of engagements after her first term was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cllr Tedder, who has been a parish and then a borough councillor for around 30 years, was elected at Surrey Heath’s annual meeting on Thursday last week.

She was re-elected as an Independent for Windlesham and Chobham ward at the borough poll on 4 May and has been a borough councillor since 2011, initially serving for the previous Chobham ward.

Cllr Tedder was nominated to be the 51st mayor by fellow ward member Independent Victoria Wheeler, who described her as the “grandmother of the council”.

She said Cllr Tedder was known for her support for numerous charities and community organisations and always found time to help anyone in the community who needed it.

The nomination was seconded by Conservative Cllr Shaun Garrett, who said Cllr Tedder had been able to attend few functions as mayor during her first term because of the pandemic, while retiring mayor Helen Whitcroft had been to just over 400.

Cllr Tedder’s daughter Libby will be the mayor’s consort and the Vicar of Chobham, the Rev Dan Stork Banks, is the mayor’s chaplain.

New Bisley and West End Lib Dem Cllr Sarbie Kang was elected deputy mayor.
