THE annual Pyrford Shepherd’s Market lived up to its board game theme by raising an amount that would make Mr Monopoly rub his hands together with glee.

Taking on stalls named after famous landmarks on the Monopoly board, the event raised a whopping £12,000 for charity, more than just a thimbleful of which will be going to local causes.

Hundreds flocked to support the community-led event, bringing family and friends to help raise as much money as they could, just like true Monopoly tycoons. Everyone who manned a table during Saturday’s frolics dressed up accordingly.

“It was a fantastic achievement by the community,” said organiser Sue Austin. “We had local people turning up to show their support, and I think a lot like last year, the whole community really enjoyed the day.”

The three charities organisers chose to support included New Haw-based Eikon, Woking Street Angels, and Hope for Uganda which provides foreign aid to children in Africa.
